Two LORD (orange colored) Tropes on One Word
We have learned that when two Tropes appear on one word, we chant both Tropes in the order they appear on the syllables with which they appear.
In all but two places in the Torah, and in all places in Haftarot and Megillot whenever we find two Tropes on one word, one of them is green and the other is red or orange.
The Tropes we have colored red and orange are known as lord or separators Tropes. The green Tropes are known as servant or joiner Tropes.
There are two places in the Torah where two orange-coloredTropes appear on one word. The rules for these two places are that the Tropes are chanted from left to right, instead of right to left.On the panel to the right, you should see the two examples of this (from Gen. 5:29 and Lev. 10:4). In each case, the word has a TELISHA GEDOLA followed by a GERSHAYIM.
Following the new rule for two lord / separator Tropes on one word, you chant the motif for GERSHAYIM first, then the musical motif for TELISHA GEDOLA. Chant the melody for both Tropes on the same (the last) syllable.Double-click on these words to the right and learn their melody.
